Mama Must-Haves

February 2, 2017

Ladies, let’s face it – Momming is hard stuff!  When I had my babies, I’m not gonna lie – it took me a LONG time to come out from underneath my yoga pants, slippers and bathrobe.  I was like Stella…trying to get my groove back.  It took me a while, but I finally realized that I needed beauty products and routines that simplified, saved time and still made me look and feel like a million bucks.

My pre-child health and beauty routine had about 25 steps and 30 different products involved.  Now – I am lucky if I have 15 quiet minutes to shit, shower and shave my legs in peace.  I don’t have time for all the steps!  And I definitely don’t have time for all the products.  I am so envious of all the social media mommies who look perfectly put together All.The.Time!  How do they do it?!  No, really…how?

Over the years, I have discovered what products and beauty hacks work best for me.  How can I consolidate my routine (and the number of products I have to use) to get ready quickly and still feel great about myself?  My hair is long and thick, so I don’t have to wash it every single day.  Because it’s easy and trendy, I tend to rock a lot of side braids (channeling my inner Elsa) and top knots.  I like to wear fun workout clothes, leggings with oversized sweaters or distressed denim and boyfriend tees.  I feel put-together… and comfortable!  Bottom line is, I have figured out what works for me and what makes me feel good and beautiful.  I challenge all of you Motherluckers to do the same!

These are my top (can’t live without) mama must-haves:

Dry Shampoo – This one has been a complete game changer for me!  I used to wash my hair every other day.  Now, I can usually get 2 solid days out of my washed hair and then an extra day with dry shampoo.  This stuff is AMAZING.  My favorite is Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo.

In-Shower Moisturizer – I used to skip moisturizer when I would get out of the shower because I just didn’t have time for the extra step.  My skin paid heavily for it.  Now, I moisturize IN the shower (crazy, right?!).  All I have to do it pat dry, get dressed and go!

Gel nail polish – How in the hell did I ever wait for regular nail polish to dry?!  I opt for a salon gel mani over doing my own, but that’s just because I suck at it.  Whether you have professionally done or DIY, gel polish is long lasting and completely dry when you are ready to head out the door.  Such a huge score for moms!

Razors with gel shave bars – The Venus Spa razor is my ultimate fav!  Makes shaving comfortable, quick and easy.  And, my husband really appreciates me not looking like Chewbacca all the time.

Coconut oil – We all know the million and one uses (and benefits) for coconut oil.  I keep a small jar of it in my bathroom and use it as my eye makeup remover, as well as my under-eye moisturizer.  It’s natural and affordable.

Whitening mouthwash  –  If you have read my bio, you know that I am obsessed with red wine and coffee!  Neither are easy on my pearly whites.  I don’t have hours to spend whitening with at-home kits, nor do I want to spend the money for professional teeth whitening.  Whitening mouthwash is so fantastic and time friendly.  Use it just twice a day, and it helps to remove surface stains so you can keep that million dollar smile!

I would love to hear about YOUR favorite must-have products and beauty hacks!  Share them in the comments below.  Cheers to a beautiful and healthy 2017! xo

For the Love of the Coach

I love hockey. I grew up in a small town in Long Island and belonged to a winter sports club. Everyday after school my best friends and I would figure skate, drink hot chocolate and swoon over hockey players. The Kesnick brothers? Dreamy. I…

Baby on the Brain, The Baby Brain Drain

I used to have to manage one itinerary: mine. My brain had room for all sorts of extra stuff. Somehow I had my favorite pilates instructor’s entire schedule memorized, I knew all of my friends’ addresses and kids’ birthdays, didn’t miss a doctor’s appointment…

Life’s Little Lessons

Just yesterday, my son (in typical three-year-old boy fashion) started the morning by being a bit naughty. Levi, “I stated firmly, “please don’t do that.” With pride in his little eyes he said to me, “If I do it again… I get time out”.…

A Very Gerstle Christmas

Like most people, I love the holiday season. Twinkle lights, presents, ornaments, crackling fires, mistletoes, parties, and all that fa la la la la la la la la. (I’d like to throw in snow angels, but I live in LA, so I’ll just keep…

Nursery Prep, The Second Time Around

With Baby #2 making his debut very soon, I figured I should have somewhere to put him when he comes home. Other than in my arms, obviously. With JJ’s nursery, I was so thoughtful (or obsessive, same thing) about every decision. It had to…

Work, Work, Work, Work, Work

I often fantasize about going back to work the way one might daydream about a trip to Bora Bora. Long, leisurely cappuccinos at my desk without a kid on my lap. Journeys to the bathroom in complete solitude. And the best part? Coming home…
